Maybe the whole concept of evil is llike a comfort zone. Leopolda = nun = religious authority/do-gooder. When Leopolda turns on her/abuses/whatever, maybe she sees the evil as good, and Leopolda now as evil instead of religious/kind/ yada yada yada.
I think Marie has fallen into sin just like the rest of the human race has. The evil is a comfortable place that she feels gives her power. It's someone on her side, and we all want supporters on "our side."
I totally agree. Being evil compels her to keep going on with what she's doing. It gives her a good sense of feeling knowing that there is someone who is beside her = devil; not someone who always is clashing with her = Leopolda
I agree with all of the previous posts. Leopolda is attracted to evil because it is something she never really experianced before. She likes it because it gives her power and makes her feel good about herself.
I think Leopolda gains power by fighting evil but that maybe her conception of evil is a little crazy. She's too extreme trying to drive out any hint of naughtiness and locking little girls in closets (kinda crazy). She loses power at the end because she commits evil by hurting Marie and then lying. The interesting thing is that Marie gains power but succumbs to feelings of pity for Leopolda at the end.
Bitter and powerless people like Leopolda want to "take out" their past victimization by making new victims (e.g.--I had it so hard when I was younger, why should you have it any easier?) Sometimes they do this in the name of doing "good"--but it's really a terrible twisting of what is healthy.

I was thinking that too. Maybe it has become like an addiction to Marie. She might feel comfort from the power being evil gives her.
