Saint Marie
were both marie and sister leopolda partially possesed by the dark one? if leopolda was not then what drove her to abuse marie and lie about the stigmata?
I think what drove her to lie about the stigmata was simply the fact that she needed SOMETHING to protect herself from what she had done to Marie. It's just a cover for something larger. As for the abuse...Maybe in some sick way she enjoyed it? Maybe she enjoyed enflicting pain on her, maybe it made her feel superior to her in some degree.
Yes -- I think they're both quite in touch with their "evil sides." This is part of their love-hate relationship. They're both aware of soemthing others are not.
While I agree that Marie and Leopolda are in tune with, for lack of a better term their "evil" sides, I see Marie as healthy and Leopolda as very, very, unhealthy. Leopolda is a harbinger of death. In fact, remember, that's her forte, prepping the dead and administering to the terminally ill. Mythological archetype?
